My Top 25 posts of 2008!

December 30, 2008          Comments (0)

First off, I want to thank you for reading my blog! It means the world to me!

I’d write my blog if no one read it; however, getting the emails and comments I get and being nominated as a Top 10 GEN Y blog just makes it that much more rewarding!

2008 was an amazing year for me. I became even more convinced (if that’s possible) that MyBodyTutor has the ability to become a real organization and I invested heavily to make this a reality (you’ll see this reality very soon!).

My clients inspire me every single day and there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for the privilege they’ve given me of being able to do what I love doing. I’ve met some fascinating and amazing people in 2008 and I can’t wait for 2009!

For 2009, I have some really interesting and though provoking posts (I think) planned. I’m really excited to write these posts and I think you’ll really enjoy them!

If you’re concerned about missing a post feel free to subscribe by email or rss. This way, whenever there’s a new post they’ll be delivered warm and fresh to your inbox or rss reader.

I thought it would be fun to have a post with my top 25 posts (in no particular order) of the year based on emails and comments. Of course, my favorite posts of 2008 are about my clients and how amazing they are.

But this list is comprised of your favorite posts! So here we go:

Business:

1. Shooting a gun is a lot like launching a business. This sort of hit me when I was blasting away at clay in the Dominican Republic.

2. The problem with most commissioned sales people. Unfortunately, I think most commissioned sales people could care less about anything but their commission.

3. The only business where it’s accepted and encouraged to brag about how much money you make. This hit me as I was working on my biz late at night and I realized every other word out of most rappers is about money and how much they make.

4. Is it that hard to wear gloves? Ugh! This still kills me. My local deli guy couldn’t wear gloves when he was making my sandwich!

5. Crawl before you walk. I get so many emails from people asking me for advice about an idea that needs at least $50k. Test first! This actually became an article in a magazine I write for.

6. How can you snakes on a plane your business? When people are used to something and they keep coming back, don’t change anything…or don’t take away anything. Add!

7. Would you buy a brand new car or a brand new website? If you really and truly believe in what you’re doing the choice is simple.

8. The number one quality we should look for in a president! I think this applies to any important position actually.

9. Will you be missed? I want to have an impact on people! There’s nothing more rewarding than helping people realize their goals and dreams! I can’t think of single better way to judge if you’re having an impact on people than this question.

Life: Business is fun to write about but I love writing about other topics that interest me as well. Just like you must have a holistic and well balanced approach when going after your health and fitness goals, life isn’t just about business or fitness.

10. How can you be a DJ in your life? This is one of my favorite posts.

11.How far will you go to make yourself happy? That is the question!

12. Why people become alcoholics? Big difference between wanting to (and having to!) get drunk on the weekends.

13. The pursuit of happiness is flawed! I examined if pursuing happiness is like being on a never ending hamster wheel to get that next ‘thing’ or for that ‘event’ to happen. Why not be happy now?

14. The two greatest days of my life so far. Once you realize the ‘why’ in your life, you’ll know exactly how I feel!

15. How to tell what someone really cares about! Ever wonder? This is your answer!

16. Why is caring so difficult? The only way to succeed is by caring. If you don’t care…stop what you’re doing!

17. Why you should never hit the snooze button again according to Tiger Woods. This was an extremely popular post and I still get emails about it!

18. What is your definition of success? This took me a long time to realize. Success has nothing to do with money and everything to do with happiness. Unfortunately, I know a lot of wealthy people who are unhappy!

19. Lessons from the happiest 81 year old waitress I’ve ever met! This is special to me for so many different reasons. Again though, what’s the point of everything if you aren’t happy?

20. How to feel like a rock star! Taken straight from my Daily Inspirations - I explore how you can feel incredible!

Relationships: Relationships and dating is fascinating to me. Who you date and who you want to date and who you actually date says a lot about you.

21. Does getting married serve any purpose these days? By far the most controversial post I’ve ever written. Of course, I believe there is a purpose for marriage. It was just some food for thought!

22. Is there really such a thing as soul mates? I used to think so. I don’t know anymore.

23. The definition of a poodle…find out if you’re one! This is something that needed to be said.

24. Why our parents are getting divorced and why you might too! I believe this wholeheartedly! If you’re not truly happy alone, no one will ever be able to make you happy!

Kids: I’m going to be an Uncle and I can’t wait! I can’t wait to see life through his eyes.

25. My first letter to my future nephew or niece. We now know it’s going to be a boy. I made my entire family cry (not at all purposely) from this and I got some really touching emails from you!

Have a happy, healthy and fit New Year and I’ll see you in 2009 ready to go!

GuruGilbert.com is a top 10 blog?

April 21, 2008          Comments (4)

You never know who is watching you. You never know who is paying attention to you. You never know who is thinking about becoming a client. Ever.

That’s one of the infinite reasons you should always give something your all. If you don’t want to give something 100% then don’t do it anymore. Because, clearly, you don’t love it and life is way too short to not love what you do.

Have you ever had a lot of fun doing something half ass? No.

Because you didn’t want to do it in the first place.

But I know you’ve had a blast doing something you are really proud of and believe in.

I happen to love writing. I’d write this blog if no one read it yet amazing things have happened because of this blog and I’m VERY grateful.

I got this email last night from Jess Neill; someone I have never met nor have ever spoken with:

Hi Adam,

My name is Jess Neill and I really enjoy your blog. I’m an advertising student at the University of Georgia, and I’ve gotten a lot out of your posts.

I am working with Ryan Stephens to create a web page on squidoo.com. It will feature our top 10 blogs that speak to generation y and millennial students and young professionals who are interested in marketing, and we have would like to feature you in our top ten blogs.

We hope that through this page we can connect people to new, relevant blogs and help bring more traffic to great blogs. We would love it if you would mention the lens, as this would help us to start connecting like-minded people, but please know that your position on the lens is not contingent on it. We would also love your opinions, and we are starting a discussion section to feature additional blogs that you feel should be represented on our list.

Here is the url: http://www.squidoo.com/top10genyblogs

After the site gets running, the top 10 positions will be voted on by the viewers of the website, but we think that your blog deserves to be on the inaugural list.

Thank you so much for your time. Please email me back with any questions, comments or concerns.

Thanks, Jess!

This is BIG!

November 29, 2007          Comments (2)

You remember that guy I told you about? Well, he has lost 31 pounds since that post.

How did he do it? The good old fashioned way. No surgery. No pills. No cookie diets. No grapefruit diets. Just by eating healthy meals and exercising CONSISTENTLY!

The problem for most, if not all of us, is that it’s just too easy to make excuses making it almost impossible to stay consistent.

31 pounds! Oh did I mention to you that he is 66 years old!?!?!?

I have helped countless clients lose weight but this one is very special for me. His son, Jason, has been a Godsend. He has referred so many clients to me. When he called to tell me that he really wants me to work my magic on his father and that he was counting on me I wanted to come through in a big way for him.

He is also a true class act. Every month he sends me a check for him and his father. Now, that’s a good guy.

I think it might be time to hire a PR person. This is newsworthy!

Look out for Paul and me on the Today show soon…

I can see it already.

My first EVER fitness video!!!

October 30, 2007          Comments (10)

A few weeks ago I wrote about my experience shooting my first ever fitness video. Well, the wait is over and the video is here!

It’s amazing how professional Conde’ Nast is. This short video took over 2 hours to film. You may think that’s insane but it’s the way it works. When I went to visit the set of the Sopranos we were there for over 9 hours watching the same two scenes being shot over and over. When we watched the episode on TV the scenes we saw being filmed added up to about 3 minutes of screen time.

I love doing the Q&A for Conde’ Nast but there is something about the camera that’s thrilling.

I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it!

Check it out here.

Interviewed by Conde’ Nast and I’m now a published man!

July 13, 2007          Comments (4)

I’m very excited to announce that the article I wrote for Millionaire Blueprints has been published in the July/August issue and is now on sale.

You can pick up a copy at most Borders and Barnes & Nobles.

Recently, I was interviewed by Conde’ Nast. My interview is on their company blog and it might also be featured in Self magazine.

As much as I believe in my program, with every molecule in my body, it’s really rewarding to hear other people say such nice things about my program, for which I thank you!

Check out the Conde’ Nast interview here.

And also check out this great article about my program here.

Thank you so much for all of your continued support!

Pretty, pretty, pretty…cool!

When I was working at Ernst & Young recruiters used to call me constantly, promising me my dream job with way more money and better hours.

Blah, blah, blah, blah!

Well, one of those recruiters (this guy happens to be excellent at what he does) called me this morning. I was telling him about my company and the concept behind MyBodyTutor and why it’s so powerful and effective.

25 minutes later he called back and said, “I love it. I want to join your program. I’m sold. This is exactly what I need. Let’s go!”

3 weeks ago, I signed up a client from KPMG, enabling me to say I have clients in all 4 of the Big 4 accounting firms.

Last week, I began working with my second bridezilla (nope, I will not let that happen!) to be.

As of yesterday, I was able to say that I have clients in 3 of the top 5 investment banks.

Pretty, pretty, pretty…cool!

GuruGilbert.com To Have Regular Column in National Magazine!!!

April 25, 2007          Comments (4)

(This is my professionally taken author shot.)

The past few weeks have been absolutely amazing…

It all started with an email from an editor of a national business magazine that I read religiously who miracously came across my blog. Yes. The one you are reading right now. She read it and loved it!

She emailed me and told me to call her.

I called her and we spoke for about 45 minutes and we really hit it off. She asked me to write a story that was “witty, edgy and hip” so, of course, I gave it my best shot.

I sent it to her and she totally loved it.

Long story short, my article is going to be featured in the July issue!

The magazine is called Millionaire Blueprints and is by far one of the best business magazines in my opinion because each article tells you ‘how” the entrepreneur did it step by step not just how “blessed, fortunate and lucky” they are.

The icing on the cake is that they are launching a teen edition and they want me to write a regular column!!! Obviously, I’m extremely excited about this opportunity to have national exposure on a regular basis.

The magazine can be purchased anywhere magazines are sold so check it out in July!

Thank you so much for all of your continued support. Every single one of you who has emailed me, IMed me, whatever; your support really means the world to me!

It’s amazing that I started this blog about 9 months ago. I started this blog because I was writing a newsletter for clients of my old business, Ultimate Discount Card, and the feedback I was getting was very rewarding.

I was encouraged repeatedly to start a blog so I did it and here we are today. I understand your time is precious and extremely limited so I try to make sure each post has some sort of impact on your life; whether it’s humorous, inspirational, educational, etc.

It’s ironic that I when I was younger I hated writing. Now, I realize I hated writing because I wasn’t passionate about the subject. I knew I was onto ‘something’ when my mom, a former English teacher, told me she actually enjoyed my writing.

My mom will never lie to me and always tells me like it is and I thank her for that. She is also my biggest fan. So, as her son is now a real author, I’m sure that has to make a former English teacher pretty darn proud!

I love you mom and Happy Birthday!!!

(I can’t believe you are only 34!)

MyBodyTutor.com launches and doing what you love!

February 5, 2007          Comments (1)

After we all stuffed our faces yesterday (at least I did) the reality of having football as an excuse to not do work has set in. Before you know it summer will be here and we’ll be wearing bathing suits.

But, for many lucky high school and college kids “spring break” is rapidly approaching. But spring break isn’t only for this extremely lucky psychographic. Maybe you are lucky enough to be going away soon too.

When I was in high school and college everyone I knew was intense about how they ate (or didn’t eat) and exercised when spring break was in the air. Once spring break was 6 weeks away…it was on. And for many that procrastinated once 4 weeks hit; it was really on!

It was crazy. Girls weren’t eating, guys weren’t eating and my gym was packed with people that were not usually there.

Starving yourself is not only extremely unhealthy and unsustainable but as soon as you are in paradise and eat normal food your body blows up. When I’m on vacation, I’d rather not worry about what I’m eating and just have the time of my life. Wouldn’t you?

I realized that when I was helping 8 of my friends from around the country get in the best shape of their life what they needed was my knowledge and daily 24/7 support NOT me actually being there with them. I was able to keep my friends on track and they felt compelled to stay on track through our daily phone calls and daily emails/IMs.

My friends all told me it worked so well for them because they knew they had to answer to someone who truly cared about their success who also had the knowledge to help them reach their goal. It’s one thing to make a promise to yourself but when you make a promise to someone else, it’s a lot harder to say, “Screw it!”

There is a better way with my MyBodyTutor.com. In fact, I can 100% guarantee that you will be in the best shape of your life for your spring break (whatever age you are!) or your money back.

Are you ready to learn more?

Go to www.MyBodyTutor.com right now.

I love this business so much because fitness has been a huge part of my life for so long. It’s so easy to do something when you believe in it 1000% and know it works; especially when you are telling authentic stories that anyone I know can attest to.

I won’t lie. I’ve had this idea for a while and a lot of things were holding me back. Mostly fear.

I obviously have to really put myself out there for this one and wasn’t in love with the idea of doing that. Now that I’m AFF, I’m just doing it!
